A day in the life of the Happy Jobless Guy

Today I want to give you a glimpse into a day in my life. I am doing this because there is a misconception that just because I regard myself as "jobless", people seem to think that I don't work. Not only that, they seem to think that I can make loads of money just idling around.

Nothing can be further from the truth, as far as I'm concerned, and the same holds truth also for many happy jobless people all over. I want to show you that you can be very happy doing your own thing, and still be able to earn a living at home. A typical day in my life starts around 6:00 am to 6:30 am. That is when I wake up. I usually try to wake up early, so that I have enough time to do my morning exercises. After 15 minutes of freshening up, I spend the next 15 minutes doing my daily warm up exercise. By then, it's around 7:00 am in the morning. Right now (March), the sky outside is still dark. Depending on the time of the year, day breaks between 6:45 am and 7:20 am.

At 7:00 am in the morning, I leave my house for my morning walks. That's when the main roads are heavily congested with the morning rush hour, with people rushing to get to work. Many of them have started their journey as early as 6:30 am in the morning, when I was just waking up.

I walk for a few kilometers each day. By the time I got home again, it is between 8:00 am to 8:15 am. By then my wife has left for work (yes, she is still holding a job, and since she loves her job, I have no problem with it either.)

I spend the next 45 minutes having a relaxing breakfast, which usually comprises a bowl of mixed cereal, muesli, fruits and milk. I go through the newspaper until about 9:00 am.

I try to start work somewhere between 8:45 am to 9:00 am. If I finish the paper earlier, then I might start work as early as 8:30 am.

And then I start my work. I discipline myself to write a few pages for each of my website. For your information, it takes time to write. Often when I look up, I am astonished how much time has passed. I usually stop to rest a few times, to take a break, to go to the bathroom, and so on. In addition to the website work, I may get calls from the office. The office? Yes. Although I consider myself "jobless", I am a co-owner of a business, and so the staff may call me for something or other. But I don't go into the office more than once or twice in a month.

I have my lunch somewhere between 12:00 noon to 12:30 pm. I don't cook. Rather, the food is brought to me. I may watch some TV over lunch. If the program is interesting, then lunch gets longer. Otherwise I am back to work somewhere between 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

The afternoon section is more or less the same as the morning. Occasionally I might check how much I am making from AdSense or any of the other affiliate programs, but I don't track my earnings every day.

My wife is back from work at 5:07 pm sharp. She is so punctual that I can almost stop work to expect her coming in between 5:06 and 5:08 pm! When she's back, my work stops too. We spend some quality time together. Lunch is either at home or out somewhere. We often go out to do some shopping, in one of the malls or hypermarkets. By the time we got home again, it's around 8:30 pm.

At 8:30 pm, I start work again. My wife often joins me, as she write a gardening website. We finish up at 10:00 pm at night.

As you can see, although I don't hold a job, I actually work quite long hours. But the difference is, I do it not because I have to, but because I simply love it. I just can't get enough of doing it. I think you will also come across many others who work full time at home, who do exactly what I am doing, because of their passion to write. And that's what I am most passionate about. I find that 24 hours is often insufficient for me to write everything that I want to write. The money doesn't matter. It's coming in anyway. What matters is, I enjoy my life as it is to the full. That's how I want my life to me, and I am glad I have a day in my life exactly as I want it to be.
