Here's a glossary of terms I used on this website. Each entry is linked to the page where the term appeared.

  1. Above the fold: Area on the webpage immediately visible after the page is loaded.

  2. AdSense: A program from Google for website publishers to display advertisements.

  3. AdWords: A program from Google for businesses to advertise their products and services.

  4. Article Directory: Websites that host free-to-use articles.

  5. Below the fold: Area on the webpage not immediately visible after the page is loaded; area visible after scrolling.

  6. Crawl: Browsing webpages for their content using automated program.

  7. Deepbot: Google spider that tries to follow every link on a webpage. Compare with freshbot.

  8. Domain Name: the hostname in a website's URL, ie www.happyjoblessguy.com.

  9. Earned Income: Money received from activities that require direct personal engagement.

  10. Freshbot: Google spider that crawls the web looking for fresh content. Compare with deepbot.

  11. FTP Software: Software to upload and download files from the Internet.

  12. Google: Company specialising in Internet search and online advertising.

  13. Googlebot: Web crawler program owned by Google.

  14. Hosting: Service allowing individuals and organizations to provide their websites accessibility on the Internet.

  15. HTML: Computer language used for webpages. It stands for Hypertext Markup Language.

  16. HTML Codes: Instructions to the computer on what to do.

  17. HTML Editor: Software to write webpages.

  18. Link Broker: A person or website engaged in the buying and selling of links.

  19. Multi-level Marketing: Business model combining direct marketing with franchising using unsalaried salesforce to sell products/services.

  20. Organic listing: Search result listing based on relevancy of keyword.

  21. PageRank: Ranking system for websites devised by Google.

  22. Paid listing: Search engine listing achieved through keyword-targeted advertising.

  23. Passive Income: Money received from activities that do not require direct personal engagement.

  24. Spider: See under Web Crawler

  25. Web Crawler: Program used by search engines to browse the content of webpages, to compile and index them, also called spider and web spider.
