Today I want to discuss how you can avoid getting banned by Google AdSense. It is one of the biggest fears of webmasters earning from Google AdSense to receive the ominous email from Google, telling them their AdSense account has been banned. Apparently new Google Accounts seem more susceptible to being banned than old ones. I have seen speculations that Google watch the new account more closely than the old account. I don't think so. I think Google pays as much attention to the new accounts as they do the old accounts. Then why is it that new Google AdSense accounts seem more likely to be banned by Google?
I believe there are two main reasons.
The first is, the newbies are clicking on their own ads, thinking that by clicking their own ads, they are minting money for themselves. Even if they don't do it, when they announce their new blog or website to their friends and family members, those friends are unwittingly clicking on those ads, thinking that they are helping the webmaster, when in actual fact, they are helping him to get banned.
The second reason is that their clickthrough rate (CTR) appears abnormal. The clickthrough rate is a percentage of the clicks your AdSense ads receive versus the number of page impressions your blog or website receives. I believe there is a certain percentage for clickthrough rate that is considered normal. If the CTR goes high than that, it triggers an alarm bell in Google to check your account. And if it appears continuously high, then your account run the risk of getting banned.
I have heard from so many people whose AdSense account was banned by Google, that they do not know what they did wrong. They claimed not to have clicked their own ads. I believe they are genuinely perplexed and they are telling the truth. Still, they got banned? Why is that so? I believe it's because their clickthrough rate appears abnormal. This is something that is, to a certain extend, out of their control, as they cannot prevent people from clicking on their ads. Nevertheless, there are steps that you can take to avoid your Google AdSense account from getting banned, and I'd like to share them here with you.
The first thing to do, is to remove all possibility for your website to register abnormal clickthrough rate. Inform your friends and family members never to click on your Google ads. Tell them that doing so is not helping you, and it may cause your clickthrough rate to appear abnormal. This is especially true when your site is new and your page impressions are low.
The second thing to do, is to build more pages, more content, so that you can get more natural hits and are found by Google's search engine. This will result in a natural in your page impressions, which will than translate into natural clickthrough of your AdSense ads. This is one thing which you should work hard to achieve. Once your page impressions reach a certain level, it is much harder for the clickthrough rate to appear abnormal. I am not suggesting that you should then start clicking your own ads - you should never ever consciously do that - but rather, your account will now be more secure from people who click on your ads zealously.
