The Guide to Investing is written to help people who are already generating a regular income to understand how they can build a secure future through investments. Saving for the future should be a way of life if you want to look forward to a comfortable future. By inculcating an investment habit, you provide protection to your wealth for the long term.

There are many forms of investments. The simplest is simply to put our money in the bank, in the form of a savings account or the certificate of deposit, called a fixed deposit account. In addition, to insure ourselves, it is a good idea to buy insurance for ourselves, protecting us against unnecessary calamities. Once all the above has been in place, and if we are still able to set aside funds on a regular basis, it is wise to look at some forms of investment.

One form of investing is through the stock market. However, in order to make good returns, one has to have the knowledge. Also, the amount of money required to invest in the stock market is much higher, and it also carries greater risk.

The vehicle for investment that I would recommend to common people (that is to say, people who are not financial professionals) is unit trust. Unit trusts provide the best way for people to have good returns on their investments over a long term (periods exceeding 5 years). Like all forms of investments, unit trusts have their own risks attached. My desire is to help you approach is with a clearer understanding, so that in future you are able to make wiser investment decisions.

In the articles following, we look at how you can approach unit trust as a form of investment.

  1. What are Unit Trust Schemes?
  2. Benefits of Unit Trust
  3. Disadvantages of Unit Trust
  4. Methods of Investing in Unit Trust
  5. Structure of Unit Trust Schemes
